How the AI Readiness Assessment Works

30 questions across six dimensions. One 0-100 composite score. Benchmarked against your peers. Here is exactly what we measure and why.

Expert Answer — citable summary

The AIOpsNav AI Readiness Assessment evaluates organizations across six dimensions: AI Strategy & Vision, Data Readiness, Workflow Integration, Security & Privacy Posture, Talent & AI Literacy, and Exit Readiness. The assessment contains 30 questions (approximately five per dimension). Weighted responses produce a composite 0-100 AI Maturity Score. Five tiers organize the score range: Beginning (0-19), Developing (20-39), Established (40-59), Advanced (60-79), and Leader (80-100). Each tier carries a characteristic profile and a set of prioritized next-step recommendations. Scores are benchmarked anonymously against peer firms in the same industry vertical and revenue band. <\!-- WHAT THE ASSESSMENT MEASURES -->

What the Assessment Measures

Each dimension probes a distinct capability domain. No single dimension determines your tier — the composite score reflects organizational readiness holistically.

Dimension 01

AI Strategy & Vision

Does the organization have a defined AI strategy? Are use cases identified and prioritized? Is executive sponsorship in place? This dimension surfaces whether AI is deliberate or accidental.

Dimension 02

Data Readiness

Is data accessible, documented, and trustworthy? Do teams have access to clean data pipelines? Poor data readiness is the most common blocker to AI value — this dimension quantifies that gap.

Dimension 03

Workflow Integration

Has AI been embedded into day-to-day processes, or does it live only in experiments? This dimension measures the depth of operational integration across business functions.

Dimension 04

Security & Privacy Posture

Are AI systems governed by clear data handling policies? Is sensitive data protected in AI workflows? Weak posture here creates both compliance exposure and client-trust risk.

Dimension 05

Talent & AI Literacy

Can staff use, evaluate, and critically assess AI tools? Is there an internal champion? AI literacy — not just access to tools — separates firms that capture value from those that do not.

Dimension 06

Exit Readiness

Can the business document AI-assisted workflows for successor buyers or leadership transitions? Firms with AI deeply embedded and poorly documented face higher valuation uncertainty.

<\!-- SCORING -->

How Scoring Works

Responses are weighted, not simply counted. Some questions carry higher weight because they are more predictive of real AI value realization at the SMB scale.

Composite score formula: Each of the 30 questions maps to a dimension and carries a point weight. Dimension sub-scores are normalized to 0-100. The composite score is a weighted average of dimension scores, where Workflow Integration and Data Readiness carry the highest weight, reflecting their outsized impact on measurable AI ROI. Question weights are reviewed quarterly and may be adjusted as new peer benchmark data accrues. [LAST UPDATED: May 2026]

<\!-- TIERS -->

What Each Tier Means

Tiers are diagnostic labels, not judgments. Each tier maps to a characteristic profile and a prioritized set of next actions.

0-19
Tier 1
Beginning

No formal AI strategy. Limited awareness of AI tools relevant to the business. AI is incidental if present at all. Priority: establish a strategy baseline and identify one high-value use case to pilot.

20-39
Tier 2
Developing

Ad-hoc AI use by some individuals. No shared governance, no organization-wide policy. Tools are used but not systematically. Priority: formalize governance and expand structured pilots to two or three workflows.

40-59
Tier 3
Established

AI is integrated in two to three workflows with defined ownership. Some governance exists. Value is being captured but measurement is inconsistent. Priority: standardize measurement, expand to additional functions, deepen data readiness.

60-79
Tier 4
Advanced

Systematic AI adoption with a clear roadmap. ROI is measured and reported. Governance covers most workflows. Leadership visibility into AI performance exists. Priority: scale to remaining functions and build organizational learning loops.

80-100
Tier 5
Leader

AI embedded in organizational strategy. Continuous improvement culture. Measurable competitive advantage attributable to AI. Documented for exit readiness. Priority: sustain the moat, monitor for model drift, and export learnings across the business.

<\!-- BENCHMARKING -->

How Benchmarking Works

Your score only tells part of the story. Benchmarking tells you where you stand relative to firms with the same industry profile and revenue band.

Peer group definition: A "peer" is defined as a firm in the same industry vertical and the nearest revenue/headcount band. Peer groups require a minimum of five submissions before a benchmark score is displayed — below that threshold, only aggregate tier data is shown. All benchmark data is anonymized at the firm level. [VERIFIED]

Benchmarks refresh monthly as new assessments are submitted. Every benchmark display shows the sample size (N) and the month the data was last refreshed, so you always know how current and how representative the comparison is. See our full benchmark methodology for peer group construction details.

Common Questions

How long does the assessment take?

Most participants complete the 30-question assessment in three to five minutes. No prior preparation is needed. Answer based on your honest current state — the value of the score depends on accuracy, not on presenting the business in the best light.

Can I retake the assessment?

Yes. We recommend retaking the assessment every quarter or after a significant change in AI tooling, team structure, or strategy. Score progression over time is one of the most actionable signals the platform provides.

Are my responses kept confidential?

Individual firm responses are never shared. Only anonymized, aggregated data is used to compute peer benchmarks. Benchmark displays include no firm-level identifying information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Who designed the assessment dimensions?

The six dimensions were developed by synthesizing AI maturity frameworks from industry research (including frameworks from McKinsey, Gartner, and MIT Sloan), calibrated against observed patterns across SMB professional services firms. The framework is reviewed quarterly. [LAST UPDATED: May 2026]

What do I receive after completing the assessment?

You receive a full AI Maturity Score report: composite score, dimension sub-scores, peer benchmark comparison, a tier-matched roadmap with prioritized next actions, and a downloadable summary. Reports are available immediately on completion.
